‘Grunch of Giants’ Made Me Rich

Could it be possible that Buckminster Fuller’s ideas could save the world and make you rich?

Listen to Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, on how Bucky’s book, The Grunch of Giants, changes everything, by letting you see into the future. “This book made me incredibly wealthy, because I could see a different future,” says Robert Kiyosaki. In Grunch, which stands for ‘Gross Universal Cash Heist’, Bucky writes about the intentional dismantling of the middle class, the unsustainable dominance of fossil fuels, and other crises now faced by all humanity. He also presents some very specific ideas about how to change course. It is a profoundly relevant book for today. Here’s the Link to a quick talk by Rich Dad Poor Dad on Bucky’s Grunch of Giants. Only two minutes to save the world and get rich. Isn’t life grand?

Seven Ideas to Create a Better World

Bucky Basics – His most important ideas about individual integrity. What it is. How to achieve it.

The great utopian futurist Buckminster Fuller (1893-1995) had some beautiful ideas about what humans could do to survive and thrive on planet Earth.

Most of Bucky’s insights involved using our minds to consciously evolve ourselves, but they also included principles we could apply to guide our actions to make necessary things happen. Think of these ideas as a different kind of leaning in, not just for our own success, but for all of humanity, and for the planet itself. Here are Bucky’s top seven principles for transforming ourselves and the world:

1. Connect with nature. Human empathy with the natural world requires bonding with nature. We must fundamentally realign our thinking to understand that we must operate as part of nature. She is not ours to bend to our will. To accomplish this, spend more time outdoors. Only nature can connect us to our deeper selves.  We must understand and follow the design principles of nature if we are to meet with success in this world.

2. Know that everything we do matters. Every individual is a valuable “trim tab ” to help humanity ‘pass its final examination’. Everyone is steering the ship. Make sure you are doing your share to lead us in the right direction. “There are no passengers on Spaceship Earth. We are all captains.”

3. Speak the truth. Seek the truth in all matters. Take time to learn the truth. And once you feel you know it, you must speak it. This is the key individual integrity of which Bucky spoke at length. The courage to speak truth to power. “Whether or not we succeed will depend on whether the individual has the courage to only go along with the truth.”

4. Demand ‘livingry’ not weaponry. “Either war is obsolete or man is.”  We must demand an end to the continued obsession with killing technology. Demand that government only support efforts which work for the benefit of ALL of humanity, not just those who profit from war. Not just the privileged few. Instead of war, we must instead fight for basic justice: Water, Food, Climate. For all.

5. Demand an end to fossil fuels. “We cannot keep burning up the house to keep the family warm.” We must demand government support of renewable energies only, and an immediate end to all fossil fuel subsidies. At present we are subsidizing our own demise. Another Bucky quote seldom referenced: “The fossil fuel industry’s ongoing obstruction of clean energy is the greatest crime ever committed against humanity.” (1982)

6. Use the power of thought. Whether we think we can, or think we can’t, we are correct. Understand the miraculous capabilities of the human mind, get in touch with your intuition, and follow it.

7. Evolve your consciousness and your conscience. “Whether or not humanity succeeds will be up to the individual.” The value of individual action, even thought, is everything. We know a better world is possible. Our positive thoughts and actions as individuals can make all the difference. Ongoing ephermerlization (doing more and more with less and less) is making amazing things possible. Just look at your iPhone.

In a 1972 Playboy Magazine Interview, Bucky predicted a true, real time democracy would exist soon. “One day soon,” he said, “We will be able to click a thing on our wrist to say ‘I like it’ or ‘I don’t like it’ and that will be our vote.” He said he worked about fifty years in advance, which means Bucky’s future should arrive just in time, in about 2020.

To achieve this sustainable future, especially in light of recent political events, we must push hard together to create something new. “When something is broken, don’t try to fix it. Instead create a new model that renders the old one obsolete.”

A final thought from Bucky in 1982, said with eyes full of worry as he peered through his thick eyeglasses: “Man knows so much, but does so little.”

Do something.

The Audacity of Denial

Screen Shot 2015-04-03 at 9.57.50 AMIf you wonder why otherwise intelligent people can’t seem to accept that fossil fuels are playing a significant role in global warming and  climate dysfunction, see this movie which outs the audacious propaganda machine churning out today’s information pollution.

This cool documentary shows clearly what is really happening, and it’s not pretty. You meet some of the world’s grand champion spinners; slick, smooth-talking pundits paid by big companies to help shape the national conversation on such topics as tobacco, pharmaceuticals, food, chemicals and climate change. And egotistical enough to brag about their exploits!

Some of the very same people who told Congress that nicotine was not addicting decades ago, are still busy today, speaking on Fox News and others to cast doubt on the science of climate change. The very same people! Most are not even scientists, but hired actors – “experts” – which the (bloody stupid) American media falls for time and again. It uses the analogy of a magician with card tricks, and three-card Monty, to show how science and fact are systematically hidden behind a cloud of PR haze. It also makes clear why the Denier’s job is not rocket science: 1) Most scientists are not good communicators, so the competition for airtime is not stiff. 2) The US government’s cozy relationship with corporate America allows massively wealthy Political Action Committees to fund the organized deception, and 3) Pyschology: people naturally resist believing in anything that means making changes in their lives.

The more people who see this movie, the more the scientific realities of our climate and environment will be understood. It could be a game changer. Please share this movie with your friends.

We can do this. We can create a better world!

Shall we stage a global sex strike?

Would it work in America?
Would it work in America?

For all of us who are disgusted with the way the world in general in going today; with violence and hate becoming so ubitqituous, for all of us tired of waking up at 4 a.m. feeling like the world had veered off course, maybe its time to flex our muscle, or not, and get the changes we want.

Buckminster Fuller told me in 1982 that by about now, women would need to step up and lead, and that it would take guts to make it happen. He said we would need to get control of the male-dominated culture which is killing itself in far too many ways.  He said America especially was at risk of failing due to our over intense nationalism.  I see the signs daily that his predictions of human unrest are coming to pass. It keeps me up at night.

This is not a gender thing. It is for women and all those who think like women; all those driven not by wealth but by compassion, cooperation and a sense of community. We must step up and demand a new paradigm of leadership, in which ‘governance equals nurturance’. This is not Socialism or Communisim or even Zen.  Maybe it’s Femism?  The name doesn’t matter, but the idea could be crucial.Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 1.59.26 PM

We must evolve quickly if the human race is to survive. That means more women must be brave enough to post about things that really matter.  Not just cute pictures of their kids and their pets!

This is a great idea from women in Africa and other places.  Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 1.56.56 PMThey are getting together at the water well, and over coffee, and coming up with the idea of a sex strike to affect political decisions, such demanding an end to war.  We could also do it for climate change, and other humanitarian and justice issues. Forced celibacy might awaken men to the seriousness of womens’ thinking, like nothing else has. Can we do this on a global scale? Can we wake up mankind’s global brain by denying for a time that notorious little one betwixt his legs?

And it’s not just in Africa. It’s a message that spreading.  Maybe this is the way to let mankind know that the violence and hatred dominating today’s world is not acceptable? That its not okay that almost half of all weapons used on planet earth were manufactured and sold by the USA?  Is that who we really are?  How else do we become something better? I’m quickly falling into the “whatever it takes” mode.Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 1.59.51 PM

Help spread the word (not your legs).  If you have any better ideas please share them. It’s long past time for real change.

BE LIKE BUCKY

Thinking and being like Bucky is only important if we hope to save the human race from extinction.

But how do you think and act like Bucky? Just three easy steps!

1. REALIZE you are as important to the future of humanity as anyone else. Each individual thought and action matters.

2. RECONNECT with nature. Only through nature can we understand our own deeper nature, which is essential to our evolution. Understand we must follow nature’s rules. (This is what climate change is playing out right now!)

3. ACT with passion and compassion. Seek the truth, find the truth, then have the courage to speak the truth. Bucky said, “Man knows so much, but does so little.”  Do something.

Bucky said there would be an “emergence through emergency”. He believed humanity was capable of miraculous achievements. We haven’t proven it yet, but the job of tackling climate change, along with peace and justice issues, is giving us the chance.

We can prove Bucky right.  We can make the world work for 100% of humanity, without ecological damage.

But it will take courage. Speak up. Wield your mighty keyboard. Be like Bucky.

Beyond Equality – Solutions to Oppression

Screen Shot 2014-11-26 at 1.20.53 PMWhether it is a young black man in Cleveland, a teenage girl from the Middle East, seasonal workers from Mexico, or an attractive woman walking down the street, the solution for the ever increasing numbers of marginalized peoples is not to demand equality but to demonstrate their moral superiority — by staying calm, taking video or audio recordings, and afterwards, by speaking up.

And then, most importantly, the rest of us must join them. The rest of us must say it in the boldest, bravest, most visible way possible. No more hate filled rhetoric or actions; not on our watch.

Bucky would observe, I believe, that for now, the terrorists appear to have won. The forces which attacked NYC in 2001 have changed the way we live. Our orchestrated fear of the “other” has brought about the militarization of our local police forces throughout the country. We have created a monster. These well-trained officers are all dressed up in swat suits with nowhere to go. They are itching for action and so they create it. It is estimated that an unarmed black man or boy is killed by a police officer in America almost every day (every 28 hours).

But what choice do we have but to turn away again and again from the news that another young black man has been killed? What else but disregard the kidnappings of dozens of young women, many to be sold into sex slavery? And who would ever even think to speak up about societally acceptable bullying behaviors toward an attractive woman on the street? What are we going to do to stop massive deportations of good people?

What can be done about the runaway, over adrenalized, misguided alpha male energy that is destroying the peace and well being of our planet?

screen-shot-2017-01-13-at-9-27-38-pmWe can all speak out.  We can find the courage to see, to understand and then speak the truth. This is the only way the system can change. We must understand that if it doesn’t work for everyone, it doesn’t work.  In other words, we must simply support Bucky’s call to “make the world work for 100% of humanity, through spontaneous cooperation, in the shortest time possible, without environmental harm.”

Inclusion. A focus on 100% of humanity. Regardless of skin color. Regardless of gender or nationality. Nothing less will suffice.

“A problem clearly stated is a problem solved.”

Buckminster Fuller said it best. If you can clearly define the problem, it is well on its way to a solution. Apply this to our dysfunctional government in America today. How do we arrive at a clear statement of the problem in light of the devastating mid-term elections, where a inexplicably destructive right wing gained full control of the US Congress?

Here is one attempt:

The takeover of our Democracy is now complete. A primary goal of this takeover is to perpetuate continued denial about the most urgent matter humans will ever face: climate change. This is to ensure continued profits for the fossil fuel industry, and makes it clear that the accelerating destruction of Earth is motivated by simple materialistic greed. Is America about to hit bottom?

Why is accurately stating the problem so important? Here’s what Bucky said (from the book Fuller’s Earth, by Richard J. Brenneman):

“The first and most important thing in solving a problem is to state what the problem is, very clearly, concisely, and incisively. State what the problem really is.  I can’t stress how important this is: a problem stated is a problem solved. So many people misstate the problem to fool themselves or others. But if a problem is properly stated, if its relatedness is clearly defined, the answer will become apparent.”

Okay, your turn.  How would you sum up the problem with America today?  Thank you in advance for your thoughts, and for sharing Buckyworld.

Climate deniers must be denied.

We live in a time when scientists and people who respect science are so troubled by climate change that there is a whole new category of psychology being created to deal with it. A story from Grist gets into this in some detail.

Catastrophic environmental events brought on by climate change will take a heavy toll on the human psyche, and just the emotional stress of knowing can be devastating.  Looking to Bucky’s wisdom for some new light to share on this problem, here’s what I found, all from the forward of his seminal 1981 book, Critical Path:

_ We are being denied. “Government and business are doing nothing to facilitate the necessary transition to clean, renewable energy.”

_ The technology exists.  “Earthians are now able to live entirely within its cosmic-energy income (sun, wind, geo, etc.) instead of spending its energy savings account, fossil fuels. That we fail at making this transition is a folly no less illogical than burning up our house to keep the family warm.”

_ We must force the issue. “Only when the leaders of the world’s great power structures are convinced they are in danger of being destroyed do the adequate funds become available for new technologies.”

_ Everything is on the line.  “The legacy of humanity is being held in probate by general ignorance, fear, selfishness and by bureaucratically maintained incumbent power structures.”

_ We must each speak up now.  “Humans are helplessly inarticulate in the face of this crisis. They know their political representation to be corrupt, and this is devastating, but none-the-less they must find the right words, and the courage to use them.”

And finally, these words from Bucky which seem forever engraved in my mind, are what get out of bed to face the  darkness:

“On personal integrity hangs humanity’s fate.”

As Bucky put it: “This is a race between a better-informed, hopeful inspired young world versus a running-scared, misinformedly brain-conditioned older world.”

Only the individual has the freedom to do what no government or corporate entity can. Speak up.  Let every elected representative and candidate know that if they deny science, they too will be denied.

All of nature — including humanity — can thrive.

What Bucky knew back in 1972.

We won’t be burning up our fossil fuels and saying to the next generation, “How are you going to get on?”

Here’s a vision of the coming century, in Bucky’s own words, from an interview with him in the February, 1972 issue of Playboy Magazine:

“We are coming into a new phase of man’s being successful on board his planet, performing his function in a bigger way than the old up-and-down infinite plane world with heaven above and hell below, the earth sandwiched in between. In this new phase, We won’t be burning up our fossil fuels and saying to the next generation, “How are you going to get on?”

Bucky Playboy Interview, 1972“The changes that are taking place are still unfamiliar to everybody, even to those who expect change. If you start plotting the changes that are occurring, the most difficult to plot is the change in attitude, the change of awareness. But I’ve been around long enough to really see these changes and I tell you the acceleration is terrific. I see this world of man coming on rapidly.

“In the traditional view of the world, there was never enough to go around and somebody had to go down, in order for everyone to eat, but that’s not the case any longer. I’m absolutely convinced of it it’s only ignorance that makes it continue to appear so. Even when I was a kid we had complete comprehensive illiteracy. Man was still very ignorant and his ignorance led to fear for his own skin. You have to remember that, early in the history of man, life was so bad that they couldn’t even think of anything good about it. Therefore they said the whole thing was just a trial for another life in some other magical place….now we know there is an abundance of energy and everything we need available to us right here.

“… Whether or not man thrives is a matter of our living up to our final test, and weaning ourselves off fossil fuels. … Our awareness of our powers to evolve consciously and create a better world is growing, and the future of mankind is very bright, as long as we have the courage to step up to the challenges of the 20th century.”

If this was all known way back when, how did we ever get so waylaid on the path to a clean energy world?  If there ever was a war that humanity must win, it is to declare our freedom from fossil fuels. Clean energy is now entirely feasible. It is inexcusable that we are still providing billions of dollars to subsidize fossil fuel producers, instead of holding them accountable for their damage to the planet and its people.
