Women Take Over Spaceship Earth

If woman, and all those who think like women, insist that “governance become nurturance”, and that weaponry be replaced by “livingry”, Bucky thought we might be able to get back into a sustainable grove.

A re-release of Buckminster Fuller’s urgent message to humanity regarding the role of women in global leadership, originally published in 1968. Please share your thoughts.

WHY WOMEN MUST RULE THE WORLD

It’s not just about a sustainable and fair planet anymore; it’s about taking over a sinking ship. With all undue respect to today’s world leaders who may have given it their darndest, in light of the abysmal performance by the predominantly male leadership on Spaceship Earth at present, isn’t it time to give a more feminine perspective a shot? Buckminster Fuller thought so.

His wisdom about the overall superiority of a feminine paradigm of leadership was published in a 1968 McCall’s Magazine article, entitled “Why Women Will Rule the World”.

What life on Earth would be like if women were in charge.

Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 1.56.56 PMIf woman, and all those who think like women, insist that “governance become nurturance”, and that weaponry be replaced by “livingry”, Bucky thought we might be able to get back into a sustainable grove.

A world led by women, Bucky said, would refuse to accept the notion of scarcity. Abundantly advanced technology and new knowledge has brought us to the point where it need not be “us versus them”, but can instead be a focus on us all, connected, and working toward the same objective of quality of life for all, without harm to the environment. As Bucky said, “If we focus our efforts on providing for 100% of humanity without environmental harm, we can do it. If we do not make that our conscious aim, we have no hope.

Women, and people who think like women, said Bucky, are called upon to bring their compassion, a cooperative spirit and sense of community to the forefront. Speak out. Take leadership roles. Be brave. Create a better variety of leadership than we have now.

It may seem like common sense by now, but the first two steps in which women must lead, is to demand an understanding of the following:

1) “War is obsolete or man is.” It has become a bad habit for America, but war is no longer a sustainable activity. There must be agreement that peace is not a pejorative, but the only solutions for our world.

2) We must wean ourselves off fossil fuels, and not just to get our greenhouse gasses under control, but to create a healthier planet for everyone. Two thirds of what remains in the ground must stay there. This is nature’s energy savings account, to be preserved for emergencies in the future.

By focusing now on harvesting the “readily tappable cosmic energies of sun, wind and wave power” we can create new jobs and healthier communities. With free energy from the sun, wind, waves, Things we knew in 1970..001geothermal and electromagnetic we can, with the right leadership, achieve true freedom for our species.

What can you do? Wield your mighty keyboard. Speak truth to power.

Start by reading Bucky’s article from 1968. Then do something, whatever you see that needs doing. As Bucky said, “Humans know so much, but do so little.” But maybe now, with women in charge, good things will start happening to achieve Bucky’s overriding objective:

“To make the world work for 100% of humanity in as short a time as possible, through spontaneous cooperative, without disadvantage to anyone or environmental harm.”

It’s a woman’s job. Someone has to do it.

REVOLUTION BEING TELEVISED NOW

Screen Shot 2016-05-02 at 1.57.37 PM(Philadelphia, PA, USA, Spaceship Earth) – Bernie Sanders supporters, newly angered by the release of emails proving the DNC leaned hard toward Hillary from the start, are disrupting day one of the Democratic National Convention. There are many indications that the tone deaf positions of the DNC are continuing, since some Sanders’ delegates are being refused a seat on the floor.   This is particularly notable since, at the GOP event last week, Ted Cruz delegates got a seat on the floor, even after Cruz spoke but refused to endorse Donald Trump.

Time will tell how well Bernie Sanders has played his hand today. He knew he had to endorse Hillary to get a place on the podium, and now that he appears to be so firmly on her side, his power has grown. He’s a little like a White Trojan Horse. He has maneuvered himself into her camp. Now it’s time to press his ideas and positions, and to hold her feet to the fire.  Then comes the biggest job of all, bringing his sometimes overly enthusiastic delegates in line behind a candidate they don’t like or trust.

MSNBC has been interviewing Bernie-or-Bust delegates, who are livid with recent events, and world weary over long-time battles over climate changes, Fracking, the TPP, single payer healthcare, and now apparent outright cheating by the DNC.

Bernie Sanders and Michele Obama will be addressing the convention tonight. My money is on Michelle to help bring the party together, although I have no idea what she might possible say to accomplish that.

This is truly an amazing moment in American history. It feels like we are now witnessing the first rumblings of some kind of second American revolution. Even though Bernie lost the primary, he still seems to be steering us toward some kind of revolution, at least a revolution of thought. What a relief it is all being televised.

Now let’s just hope it’s for real.

SAVING THE WORLD CAN MAKE YOU RICH?

Could it be possible that helping to manifest Buckminster Fuller’s ideas about transforming Spaceship Earth could not only help save the world but also make you rich? One really rich guy says that’s exactly what he did.

Bucky’s mission was “To make the world work, for 100% of humanity, in the shortest time possible, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone.”

Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, embraced Bucky’s passions, and talks about how Bucky’s book, The Grunch of Giants, changed everything for him, by letting him see into the future. “This book made me incredibly wealthy, because I could see a different future,” says Kiyosaki. Screen Shot 2016-06-13 at 1.58.44 PMIn Grunch, which stands for ‘Gross Universal Cash Heist’, Bucky presents clearly how our current system is all about the intentional dismantling of the middle class, the unsustainable dominance of fossil fuels, and a variety of other crises, which we now face, just as he predicted. The book also includes some very specific ideas about what we must do to change course. It is a profoundly relevant book for today. Here’s the Link to a quick talk by Rich Dad Poor Dad on Bucky’s Grunch of Giants. Here’s a link to buy the book from Amazon.

As Bucky said, “Man knows so much but does so little.” Bucky’s  book Grunch of Giants is one small book that could represent a giant leap for all humankind.

Bucky would be for Bernie!

Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 12.11.31 PM

There is a revolution berning in America, and it sounds uncannily like what Bucky used to pine for: A world that works for everybody. A just and sustainable world. A world we can achieve if we simply apply ourselves to that task!

The resemblance between the late Bucky and Bernie Sanders is remarkable. They look alike, and they think alike. They get grumpy when people are too stupid to understand the truth. They both have hearts as big as planets. Most importantly, as Bucky and Bernie have each said in their own way that we must understand that the system is rigged, against the people. Bucky wrote extensively about this in his “GRUNCH – Gross United Cash Heist” and Bernie, having watched the antics of Wall Street for five decades, has honed his ideas well. They ring true to so many, because they are the truth.

Every time Bernie speaks, I hear Bucky.

Bucky. Bernie. Surely we are beginning to make progress and there could be an American Revolution in 2016?  It’s all starting to sound possible. But to actually make it happen will require the best of all of us. We must each wield our mighty keyboards. We must each let the world know what we think. Whether you want to call it Democratic Socialism or We the People, what’s important is that you must dare to speak truth to power.

Whether or not the revolution happen depends on you.

A big year for Spaceship Earth?

Screen Shot 2016-01-22 at 10.20.54 AM

Things are looking up in Bucky’s world. A true leader has emerged in US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. He knows the importance of the statement above. And why government must be returned to the people. In addition, the climate deal in Paris appears to have been a turning point. Wall Street is wobbling, no doubt in fear of Bernie.

But there are serious challenges. Exxon lied effectively for thirty years, derailing Humanity’s most important task, that of weaning ourselves off fossil fuels. Monsanto is still suing California to stop it from labeling RoundUp as a cancer causer, while they greedily buy up non-GMO seeds and refuse to label GMOs. Methane plumes beyond our fathoming are still poisoning the skies in Southern California. Fracking is still screwing up water supplies and lives throughout America are being derailed by irresponsible corporate powers only concerned with their own profits.

Removing the current corporate control over America’s government is key. Bernie Sanders is the only one willing to take this on. The only one even talking about it.

This didn’t start out to be a Bernie ad, but darned if it didn’t become one. Surely Bucky would be #feelingthebern. 2016 could be the year.

Bucky’s hope for humanity

Buckminster Fuller’s vision for the future has one thing few other futuristic visions do: It is entirely pragmatic. Absolutely doable. The only trick is that each of us must actually focus on the task of making it happen

This begins with one subtle shift in focus — a conscious shift in our perception. Instead of perceiving a world based on scarcity, as we were taught in classic economics, we instead accept abundance, that there are ample resources available to serve all people, and all life on Earth. There is plenty for all.

“If we simply covert our weaponry to livingry, all of Humanity could be enduringly successful.”

In other words, just by focusing on the idea of abundance, we can bring it about. This may not be easy. It requires we become a class one species, which is one that puts the good of the whole above that of the individual. We do this because we know that putting others first is the best thing we can do for ourselves, so we still get to be selfish.

Once we make this conscious evolutionary leap, Bucky said, we would begin to do all the right things for all the right reasons. Or, as he put it, with a big grin:”Humanity will always do the right thing, but only after exhausting every other possibility.” Thirty years ago, Bucky said that humanity was beginning its final examination. He said that whether or not we made it would depend on the integrity of the individual. This final exam. he said, also requires that we wean ourselves off fossil fuels. It is clear now that we have all the technology we need to transition to clean energy. It is only the will which is missing.

Whether we find our will, even when against entrenched interests are working against us, is key to humanity’s final exam. We must tap into the abundant and free “vast cosmic” energies, which await our easy harvest of them, as they have fro decades.

“We must each find the courage to go along only with the truth.”

We must demand responsible climate action from our global leaders, as well as demand only decisions which bring about greater peace and justice.

“Only the individual is free enough to take the initiative.”

The more people who think and speak like Bucky, the better our chances of passing this damn final examination! Only knowledge can raise humanity up to the potential Bucky and many others saw.  Amazing things are possible. But we have to have the courage to go along only with the truth.

How to Think Like Bucky

This amazing book continues to provide the most useful access to the mind and heart of Buckminster Fuller of anything I have found. It is surely the most valuable Bucky thinking available today, and in true Bucky style, it is linked here, for free.

BOOK REVIEW:
AFullerExplanation By Amy Edmondson

For years I worked to wrap my head around some of Bucky’s ideas, and then one day I picked up this book and the veil was thrown off. Amy Edmondson’s A Fuller Explanation opens up the mind and heart of Buckminster Fuller better than anything I have found. It can truly show you how to think like Bucky, and in true Bucky style, it is made available to you free by clicking here.

This book is a study of Bucky’s major discoveries and ideas. It also deciphers Bucky’s most important two books: Synergetics: Explorations in the Geometry of Thinking and Synergetics 2: Further Explorations in the Geometry of Thinking.

c60Together these two volumes (also available free by clicking) are over 1400 pages. Their length, along with Bucky’s exquisitely accurate, but often awkward version of the English language, have been barriers for many seeking to understand Bucky’s timeless concepts. But Amy Edmondson changes all that, making even Bucky’s mind blowingly brilliant concepts about synergetic geometry and the geometry of thinking accessible.

From the Preface: “Synergetics, in the broadest terms, is the systematic study of space, and as such is an inherently comprehensive discipline. Designers, architects, and scientists can easily find connections to their work; however, the larger significance of Fuller’s geometry may be less visible. Experience with synergetics encourages a new way of approaching and solving problems. Its emphasis on visual and spatial phenomena combined with Fuller’s holistic approach fosters the kind of lateral thinking which so often leads to creative breakthroughs. Moreover, familiarity with synergetics facilitates recognition of significant patterns that might otherwise be missed.

The recent discovery of C60—a carbon molecule that’s a tiny replica of Fuller’s geodesic dome—provides an apt illustration. In naming this new molecule “buckminsterfullerene”, scientists Harold Kroto and Richard Smalley have lightheartedly acknowledged a debt to Fuller for enabling them to identify this geometric configuration occurring on a scale far too small to be seen directly. As a result, almost a decade after Buckminster Fuller’s death, his name can be found in some newspaper or magazine on a weekly basis, due to C60’s far- ranging implications for science and industry. Scientists have speculated that “buckyballs” may revolutionize industrial lubricants, plastics, and even lead to superconductors that carry electricity without resistance. Buckminsterfullerene’s structure is what Harvard’s Arthur Loeb has called a “truncated icosahedron”; Bucky called this particular geodesic shape the “hexapent dome”. The rest of us call it a soccer ball! Whatever the label, this structure is characterized by inherent stability and the efficient use of space. And so, if Nature were doing her job, buckminsterfullerene would be the only logical choice for structuring C60. Discovering the shared principles behind structures of all materials, shapes and sizes is what synergetics is all about.”

Bucky often said that he was working fifty years ahead. Many of the ideas discussed in this book were from the 1960’s or earlier, so they are right on time for 2016.  You will see that most of Bucky’s insights and discoveries have aged very gracefully, and that they are eternal. You will understand that as we gain clarity about what they mean, we can be inspired toward further discoveries to help solve problems on Spaceship Earth. buckyball fullerene art -livingry

Maybe we will even pass the ‘final examination’ Bucky said was underway. The more of us who read and think like Bucky, the better our chances. Only knowledge can save humanity from itself.

DENIERS ON THE RUN. CAN PARIS BE WON?

Screen Shot 2015-10-30 at 11.24.47 AMDeniers are on the run in Washington D.C., as illustrated in this hilarious photo and story linked here from the Onion. They are newly feral creatures sensing the gig is up. Exxon is under investigation. Oil prices are on a roller coaster. Bill McKibben’s divestment movement is a big success. The application for the Keystone XL pipeline is being withdrawn. Americans are wising up. Our eyes are opening to the dysfunction of our present model of government. We know war is waged for profit. We know we have all the technology we need to create clean energy. And we know that we can get the money out of politics.

With either Bernie or Hillary as our new president, America’s hope for an actual renewal is good. Maybe this was the change Barack Obama was promising?  But what really matters now, and matters most, is what happens in Paris this December.

This next climate gathering is surely humanity’s last best chance to turn things around. World leaders will gather and choose  to come together and work to get our ecosystem back into balance with nature, or blow it for good, by waiting too long and doing too little.

To help make sure it happens, Bucky would say that we must each dare to speak about it, and demand it. Dare to demand Climate action now. Support Clean energy development. Now. Enough with the fossil fools being allowed to place their measly mortal profits ahead of the welfare of not just all of humanity, but of all life on Earth.

How dare they? How could we have been so blind for so long?
