With all due respect to today’s world leaders, who may have given it their darndest shot, in light of the abysmal performance by the predominantly male leadership on Spaceship Earth in recent deades, isn’t it time to give a different perspective a go at it?
What would life on Earth be like if women were in charge? Much better, says the pragmatic utopian, the late Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983). Bucky’s ideas regarding the overall superiority of a feminine paradigm of leadership, and the next for women to step up and lead, was published in a 1968 McCall’s Magazine article, entitled “Why Women Will Rule the World”.
Bucky called on woman, and all those who think like women, to insist that “governance become nurturance”; that weaponry be replaced by “lovingly”; and that they are the ones who must lead humanity onto a more sustainable path.
This is not about politics. It is not communism or socialism. Maybe it is something called humanism. Whatever you call it, it is about people coming together to cooperate, to make life on Spaceship Earth work for everybody. It’s time to play the World Game!
A world led by women, Bucky said, would choose to embrace a model of abundance, not scarcity. It need no longer be “us versus them”, but can instead be a focus on working together, toward the objective of quality of life for all, without harm to the environment. As Bucky said, “If we would simply focus our efforts on providing for 100% of humanity without environmental harm, we could do it. All we have to do is make it a conscious aim, and it will happen.
Women, and people who think like women, are called upon to lead, to bring their compassion, their cooperative spirits and their sense of community to the forefront. Speak out. Be brave.
It may seem like common sense by now, but one job women must accomplish is to get men to realize the truth of this Bucky idea: “Either war is obsolete or man is”. We must agree that war is not a sustainable activity. Also, 2) We must realign ourselves with nature, which now means weaning ourselves off fossil fuels with urgency. The fossil fuel industry has postponed this for forty years. The time for clean energy is now, and it is happening, but needs to happen faster.
It’s a woman’s job. Someone has to do it.
What can you do, you might ask? Wield your mighty keyboard. Share this message. Kick some fossil fuel ass.
